Painted Masks

We held a very fun and glittery mask workshop for kids at Katoomba Library these holidays! The class explored mask art and meanings from different cultures around the world, before designing and painting their own mask creations.

Materials:

Plain paper mâché masks
Lead pencils
Acrylic paint and brushes
Sharpies and regular textas
Glitter
Diamontes (adhesive)
Googly eyes (adhesive)
Thin paper scraps for hair
Masking tape

We used Sharpies and textas for detail, acrylic paint for larger areas. To add glitter, students sprinkled glitter gently over wet paint. Diamontes and google eyes were stuck on when the surface was dry. Masking tape was used on the back of the mask to attach hair.
