Paper Crowns

Here are just a small selection of wonderful and wild paper crown that kids created today in our last class for the term. Happy Easter Holidays everyone!

3D Papercraft!

Kids had a blast making 3D Papercraft at Springwood Library/Hub these holidays! All it took were some scissors, glue, coloured paper, and a bit of imagination. Some of the creatures assembled were a spiky hedgehog, spooky black cat, and a fish with a slinky, moveable spine. Looking at the photos below it appears that some of those fish were very hungry indeed.

Autumn Art Wreaths

These beautiful decorations were made by children at my Autumn Art Wreaths class at Katoomba Library. Using a mixture of textured painted paper and construction paper in Autumnal colours, students created the perfect ornamental artwork for this time of the year. We used some different Autumn leaf templates I premade, to trace and cut out (however I encouraged students to make their own leaf shapes too). The white decorative markings were achieved using one of my favourite materials - Posca pens!  

Paper Crackle Effect

The images below are just a few of the works made yesterday by Springwood Art Class. To make these abstract drawings, we each scrunched up a piece of paper into a ball and then opened it up again. Next, students traced the scrunch lines in black marker to create a shattered look reminiscent of stained glass, and then coloured in each section. Every work comes out completely differently, which is wonderful! It took about an hour for most children to complete an artwork on A5-sized paper.   

3D Tree Collages

This class was a twist on traditional collage artwork...first we drew magical trees in texta on paper, and then added cool 3D leaves - some popping out with a paper spring or clever paper folding. 

The final work is a collage that pops off the page.

I love the beautiful colours and shapes!

Alexander Calder Paper Sculptures

Inspired by Alexander Calder sculptures, we made small paper versions and created a sculpture park of our own.

What you need:
*Images of Alexander Calder sculptures for inspiration
*Interesting coloured paper and yardstick
*Sticky tape
*Stapler
*Scissors
*Textas/pens/pencils (for decoration)

Matisse Collages

Sorrows of the King by Henri Matisse, 1952

Inspired by the beautiful paper cutout collages of French artist Matisse (1869 - 1954), we created our our collages today using common motifs of the artist - musical instruments, leaves and flowers, bodies and geometry in movement.

This is a quick and easy class, most kids finished within 30 mins and started a new project!

Torn Collage Spirals

Then tear lots of coloured paper/text from magazines into little 1cmx1cm pieces. Glue them down, starting from the middle of your spiral, leaving no white paper showing underneath. It usually takes at least an hour on A4 paper.

Spring School Holidays Overview

Hi everyone, these holidays have been a wonderful start to Spring! I've held a few creative classes in the Blue Mountains libraries over the past two weeks, and below are some pics of   the great artworks and crafts made by kids in the workshops: Scratch Art (etching), paper planes and french knitting.
