Paper Clay Creatives

Using lovely soft paper clay, our school holiday students created all sorts of colourful creatures at Springwood Library/Hub! They practiced skills such as sculpting, adding texture and mixing colours. Have a look at the wonderful sculptures below!

Paper Tube Animals

Here are some of the amazing paper tube creatures made recently by children ages 6 - 12 at Springwood Hub. How great are they?! I love them all. 

The tubes came white, so I pre-painted some of them, ready to decorate with coloured cardstock, paper, Sharpies and Posca pens. Folding the top sides of the tubes down is an easy way to create ears, for creatures such as foxes. 

Look carefully - can you spot an echidna with spikes, rainbow unicorn and little frog?

Winter Scene Snow Globes

Our first holiday class for kids aged 6 - 12 years these holidays was Snow Globes with a winter theme, held at Katoomba Library. We used Cleverpatch globes, which you can open to insert your artworks into. The designs were coloured in with bright markers in order to make images pop through all the glitter snow. Some of Winter designs chosen by students were: penguins, snowy landscapes, snowmen, dragons, bunnies and foxes.

Drawing Alpacas

Today we practised drawing, focussing on South American alpacas. 

Did you know?

Alpaca fleece is smoother than silk, softer than cotton and water-resistant.

Alpacas come in 22 colours - such as white, fawn, red and grey.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

These school holidays young students at Katoomba Library created adorable caterpillar paper chains and then learnt how to collage in the style of author and illustrator Eric Carle. The painted paper used in the collages had different patterns, colours and textures, and was dry before we used it for our artworks.
