Mixing Colours - et voila!

Springwood Art Class was presented with the challenge of creating miniature paintings, using only red, yellow, blue, black and white acrylic paint to mix other specific colours. Here are just a few of the awesome results!

Painted Wall Hangings

Here are a few of the wonderful wall hangings created in Katoomba by kids these school holidays. 

I sewed the banners from calico, creating a looped space at the top to thread wooden doweling through. We used crocheted cord to string them up. 

The students had the option of using Posca pens, sharpies, fabric paint or acrylic paint, as well as pom-poms, feathers and beads to decorate their banners. 

Winter Watercolours

It's that time of year again! Watercolour paintings depicting an outdoor ice-skating scene (inspired by the magical artworks of Kathe Soave) were made by children aged 6 - 12yrs at Katoomba Library during these chilly holidays, and the results and wonderful!

Painted Flowerpots

Presented with plain white flowerpots to decorate, the students from Springwood art class last Thursday were first asked to create a couple of drawn designs on paper before diving in with permanent markers. Luckily, lead pencil could also be used to outline the designs on the surface of the pots prior to using the markers. Here are several of the great pots in progress: 

Paul Klee Watercolour Paintings

Paul Klee, Castle in the Sun

Today the class created watercolour cityscapes in the style of Paul Klee. We focused on drawing geometric shapes, putting them together to build fantastical city buildings. Then we added colour with watercolour pencils.

Rainbow Fish

Springwood Art Class based their fish paintings yesterday on the illustrations in the classic book 'The Rainbow Fish'  by Marcus Pfister. Students coloured their fish drawings in with watercolour pencils, using metallic oil pastel for the shiny scales. The oil pastel resists the water and watercolour paint.                        

Ice Skating Watercolour Painting

Inspired by the wintry painting above by artist Kathe Soave, the class today had the task of using watercolour pencils to create an ice skating artwork. We drew the rink and skating characters (including skating animals!), stars in the sky and cosy houses in the distance.
